When so much marketing and promotion takes place online, it pays to remember the old ways!

No matter how exciting your website and how often you update your social media, remember that old-fashioned ways of introducing yourself to clients are still valuable.

This message was brought home to me this week when a friend told me about a new yoga teacher and the class she had attended.

She had asked for the teacher’s web address but the teacher said simply ‘ take a business card and here’s a few more for your friends’.

My friend then told me about how great the class was and gave me one of the business cards.

What could be simpler and more cost effective?

It is a classic case of client recommendation in action.

I am a great believer in the power of referrals and recommendations.

It is the method I adopted when I went from start-up to full in a matter of a few months when I launched my own physiotherapy clinic.

If you are struggling to find enough clients why not lift your head up from your computer and your online marketing and get out into the community.

Ask cafes, surgeries, community centres and shops if you could leave business cards clearly visible.

Why not redesign your cards, hand them out to your existing patients and give them enough to pass on to their friends.

A business card in a purse, a pocket or on a kitchen pin board is a great memory jogger for patients.

So even though we are all digitally connected, don’t discount the old-fashioned ways of building a business.
